Registered Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy involves the use of a variety of techniques (hand and elbow pressures) applied to the soft tissues of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) in order to decrease pain and muscular tension, increase joint mobility and rehabilitate injuries. Regular treatments are also very valuable in helping to reduce stress and stimulate the immune system, therefore promoting optimal health and wellbeing.
Golden Harmony offers massage therapy by registered therapists (Regulated Health Practitioners Act). The registered massage therapists employ the use of various techniques including: classic Swedish techniques, sports massage, deep tissue (elbow pressures), trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, remedial exercise, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy. Other specialties may include craniosacral therapy, reflexology, strain/counter-strain and Shiatsu techniques.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice based on the belief that health is dependent on good flow of the vital life energy called Chi. The energy is thought to flow through the body along pathways called meridians which are each linked to a specific organ. If there is any abnormality of the flow of Chi, various health problems and painful conditions can arise. Acupuncture is used to relieve painful conditions including backache, acute injuries and migraine headaches. It is also helpful in the treatment of skin disorders, varicose veins, addictions, mental disorders and many other conditions.
An acupuncturist inserts thin needles at specific points in the body. It is necessary for the patient to be partially undressed during the treatment, as the needles must be inserted directly into the skin. Some discomfort may be occasionally experienced upon insertion of the needle but for the most part the treatment is virtually painless. The needles may be left in place for anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour. To support the Acupuncture therapy, the practitioner may prescribe the use of herbs, exercises and specific lifestyle changes. Relief may be experienced after only one treatment or after a series of treatments.
Shiatsu
Translated Shiatsu means "Finger Pressure". This Japanese massage technique focuses on the acupressure points along the meridians. Through firm, rhythmic pressures applied to specific points for several seconds, along with the application of stretches to meridian lines, the Shiatsu therapist attempts to unblock the energy and regulate normal flow through the body. This type of therapy can have a host of benefits, helping to relieve pain and stiffness, stimulating the body's organs and immune system, and promoting a general feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.
The therapist will use various finger, forearm and elbow pressures while working on the acupressure points along with putting the patient into different positions in order to achieve releases. As with all other alternative therapies offered at Golden Harmony, the Shiatsu practitioner will advise the patient to do therapeutic exercises and will encourage lifestyle changes in order to promote optimal health.
Qi Gong
Qigong [pronounced chee-kung] is a 5000-year old Chinese self-healing system with exercises to gain good health, to cause the acupuncture meridians to be relaxed and open to allow for a normal flow of energy through them and connected organs. In doing qigong, a student improves the immune system, and enhances vitality, youth, focus and calmness. This program offers both basic standing qigong and moving qigong based on the teachings of the Yee Ch’uan Tao and Wuji Qigong systems. Qigong is essential for martial arts based on the usage of internal power, and is very well established as a health system on its own across the world.
Tai Chi
TAI JI QUAN or TAI CHI CHUAN is an art of longevity, practised to develop harmony between body and spirit, full and empty, heaven and earth (Yin-Yang Theory). Tai Chi works on our internal energy (Chi) and simultaneously develops the harmony of gestures and corporal agility, it lightens the step and it gives us a vitality that irradiates from our body and spirit.
Tai Chi is practised to boost self-confidence and self-esteem, to regulate the blood circulation, to strengthen muscles, joints and to develop reflexes. Tai Chi can be practised by all at any age and any level of fitness and it has no negative side effects. Tai Chi is a healing art, a martial art and a spiritual art.
A Tai Chi form is a series of slow circular movements, joined together in a flowing flexible manner. The form is the base of Tai Chi Chuan in which the teachings that we acquire are summarized. The practise of Tai Chi Chuan leads progressively to the rooting and control of our energy as well as agility, harmony and peace.
At Golden Harmony, several Tai Chi forms are taught, the long form can be completed by a dedicated student in a period of between 18 and 24 months. |
